CNCR                     SOUTH-CENTRAL AREA                    NEWSLETTER     #1            2008-2009 SEASON

Hello everyone, I hope you are enjoying your summer.  The Region Board has been busy preparing for the upcoming season.  We recently met in Prince George for our annual 'Planning' meeting, unfortunately the  Presidents workshop we prepared for had to be canceled due to low numbers able to commit to attending. We will try to reschedule  during the proposed High Performance Seminar Sept 6/7th.  Hopefully that will be a better date and at least one representative from each of your clubs will be able to attend.

A few items of interest arising from the recent CNCR Board meetings:

-Williston Skate and Regionals will both offer CPC for the competitive events next season.

-Watch for the Northern BCWinter Games Qualifying Announcement which will be sent out separately this year and prior to the Williston Announcement. Zones who don't have more entry's than their allotted number will not have to skate-off and those skaters who have registered to compete will be notified prior to the Williston registration deadline.

-A new 'Come Skate With Us' package is being created and will be ready for distribution by Sept 1st  All clubs  are encouraged to apply for region funding to help you promote and increase your Canskate programs...see the Caribooster for details.

-All clubs are required to send a copy of their Clubs Constitution to their Area Rep. ASAP and prior to the start of the season. This can be in hard copy or by email attachment.

-Clubs are advised they must request and keep on file, proof of current Skate Canada Registration and certification for all coaches in their employ.

-The Test Surcharge, formally referred to as a Judges Bureau fee, has been increased to 4.00 per test.  This is the first increase since 1994.

-FIELD TRAINING Seminar funding is available to a club in the South Central Area...if interested in hosting same, please contact me or Chairman Donna for further information.

-Clubs are to submit copies of all club minutes to their Area Rep. immediately following meetings, via email.  This falls in line with the Section policy regarding Region minutes.

-Region Fundraiser-Disney tickets will be distributed to each club to sell. The profits from this fundraiser will go toward funding the Come Skate With Us, Synchro and other Field Training Seminars.  Watch for further info from Region Fundraising Director Susan Slater.

-Congratulations to South Central Area senior skater and graduating student Breanne Ferris who was the recipient of the 2008 CNCR Scholarship.

Thanks to all the clubs who have sent in the required Form 100 listing all your board executive members.  We are still waiting for the Nechako and Spruce City club information.  Once all clubs Form 100 have been received we can complete and distribute the 2009 Caribooster.

And  lastly, make it a habit to regularly check out the Region website for all the latest information...www.skatecncr.com

Cheers and  heartfelt congratulations to Soliel Gagne and Katrina Dakus ....our Bronze and Silver Provincial Triathlon Champions and also to Jessica Wiens who is the alternate for the National Championship.  Way to go girls !!!

The season is  winding down but please don't forget your last club responsibilty of the year is to complete your clubs proxy forms for the CNCR AGM and the National Skate Canada AGM.

The CNCR Annual General Meeting is scheduled to be held Saturday, March 29th in conjunction with the Centralized high test day in Prince George.  You  have already received  your clubs proxy/delegate forms and if you aren't sure if you will be sending a club representative to attend the AGM, then please sign and return the proxy form to me as soon as possible.

Its important that all clubs be represented, and be assured that I'll keep pestering you until you've submitted your clubs forms.

The Skate Canada National AGM proxy form is club specific and its numbered, so if you misplace the form it won't be easily replaced.  In order to avoid the hassle of having it replaced, please fill it out and send it to Region Chairman Donna Neufeld today.

Thats all for now......see you at the AGM

CNCR                     SOUTH-CENTRAL AREA                    NEWSLETTER     #8            2007-2008 SEASON

The season is rapidly winding down with a flury of Ice shows, test days and end of the year competitions to look forward to. Remember, you MUST apply to the Region Chairman for a sanction if your club is planning any kind of public event like Ice Shows, Pop Concerts, or if any of your members are invited to perform an exhibition at Hockey games. Your insurance will not cover your members without sanction approval.

Thanks to those area clubs who submitted nominations for the Program Assistant Award Canskater of the Year and the Starskate Athlete Award. It takes a lot of effort to make a good submission but its definitely worth the effort to acknowledge the achievements of your club skaters. There were many excellent candidates nominated this year. We are fortunate to have an abundance of generous, dedicated, and talented young people in our sport. Our Congratulations to recipients of the 2007/08 CNCR awards:

STARSkate Athlete Award - Selena Van Aert - Quesnel FSC
Program Assistant Award - Becky Canuel - Ft. St.John FSC
Canskater of the Year Award - Mykenzie Beech - Ft. St.John FSC

The CNCR Annual General Meeting is scheduled to be held Saturday, March 29th in conjunction with the Centralized high test day in Prince George. Please watch for your clubs proxy/delegate form and if you can't send a club representative to attend, then please sign and return the proxy form to me.

We are asking clubs to consider taking on one of the centralized test days for next season. If your club hasn't hosted an event - perhaps its time. Please discuss the possibility with your executive and let me know asap. Host sites will be chosen at the AGM.

If your club will be operating a spring or summer school this year, you can send your information to the webmaster for posting on the region website.

Test Days: If your club is planning a low/intermediate test day, don't forget you must invite the surrounding clubs. Also, please send your test date to the webmaster for posting to advise clubs who are looking for a test day to attend.

And lastly, Congratulations to the UNBC Northern Timberwolves FS Team on winning the Western Canada Collegiate Trophy earlier this month. Quite an accomplishment in their first season and their first varsity competition!!!

Thats all for now......

CNCR                     SOUTH-CENTRAL AREA                    NEWSLETTER     #7            2007-2008 SEASON

For those who were unable to attend the Regions Semi Annual General Meeting in Quesnel Dec 8th, the following are  the topics discussed by our guest speaker, BC/YT Section 1st Vice Chairman-Lorraine Mapoles, who spoke on Club Management and  Administration.  Many of the topics she covered will be of interest I'm sure.

Club Constitutions: Clubs must have a current constitution and be a member in good standing of the BC Society's Act. Lorraine advised that there is a Section approved generic example available which clubs can use in its entirety or as a guideline. Once updated, your constitution must be sent to and approved by Bev Viger, the Section Constitutional Director - Prior to being presented and passed at your clubs AGM and prior to filing with the Society's Branch.

Sanctions:  All events your club plans to do must have Sanction approval by the Region Chairman. If you are unsure, contact our chair-Donna Neufeld.    Don't take a chance on insurance coverage  being disallowed.

Fundraising: Section tries to provide and distribute fund raising suggestions to clubs. Reminder that all 50/50 draws  must be licensed, especially important if you are applying and receiving Gaming Direct access Grants

Insurance: Lorraine explained that the policy offered by BC is less expensive and offers more coverage than the Skate Canada policy. It is mandatory that all your clubs skating members and core executive are registered and covered.

Confidentiality Agreement : Section distributed the document and it has also been included in the CNCR Caribooster.
This was meant to remind club members  that what is discussed at meetings should be kept private and for members to appreciate the responsibility they take on when agreeing to join a club executive. Executive members need to remember that they are  on the board for all the members of the club not just their own child.  They must have a broad vision of the club and for its future growth. Appreciate everyone's opinions....be willing to listen...be flexible and appreciate that the majority rules.  Respect each others point of view.

Good Standing:  Can be affected by non-payment of fees owing to the Club/Region/Section ie: test fees/club program fees, etc..... NOT coaches fees.  Collection of coaching fee's are strictly between the parent and coach.

Codes of Ethics...Ethics are a personal point of view and therefore open to interpretation.  The Coaches, Executive, Skaters Codes as set out by Skate Canada are recommendations for personal behavior. They are guidelines that we hope all will strive to achieve.  They are not law.  One persons interpretation of ethics cannot be forced on another.

Policys- Clubs should have a policy book and keep it up to date.  This is extremely important for club continuity.
Boards are continually changing and allowing knowledge to leave with your executive members will have a negative effect on the future smooth running of your club.  Keeping a current policy book will save time and controversy and avoid having new executive's revisiting the same issues and continually reinventing the wheel.

Club issues & rules clarification questions- Please do not take internal club problems or questions directly to the BC/YT Section or Skate Canada offices. If a member has an issue, they should contact their club first, then if not resolved, the club should contact your Region Area Rep....if the region cannot solve your problem then the Region Chairman will contact the Section on your behalf.  It will save time in the long run if the correct pecking order is followed.

Club Programs- Clubs need to be flexible when creating their programs. There are many other options available to young people nowadays, so its important that we make our sport and club program options as attractive as possible.  Use whichever marketing tools will be attractive to prospective club members in your community.  Be aware that change can be a positive-don't get stuck in the past.  To grow and remain healthy, clubs need to continually work to attract new members.  The future of your club is with its youngest members....keep them interested, involved and having fun and they'll soon be your senior skaters.

Officials needed-Lorraine concluded her talk by reminding us of the current shortage of Skate Canada officials. She said clubs need to be involved-making a real effort to recruit from within. Talk to your senior skaters and to parents who were former skaters themselves-often it only takes asking to find that they would be interested in attending a clinic.

NOTE:  Our Webmaster has added a buy/sell and employment opportunity page for clubs &/or coaches to advertise. This is a free service. Ads to be submitted to Linda for posting. Check it out-  www.skatecncr.com.

Happy New Year,

Darlene Dorsey

CNCR                     SOUTH-CENTRAL AREA                    NEWSLETTER     #5            2007-2008 SEASON

Annie’s Edges Seminars – We, in the South Central Area, are fortunate that this year the majority of events  (Williston, Regionals, Boots 'N Blades, the Canskate seminar and two centralized test days ) are all right here in our own area, minimizing the travel costs to our skaters.  With that in mind, we've had a suggestion that clubs consider making attending one of the Annie's Edges Seminars a 'club trip'.

The importance of  technique, power, endurance, flow and control to the successful figure skater cannot be stressed too often.   There are two opportunities for your club athletes to take part in these Region sponsored, Skater Development, seminars - Chetwyn  Oct 20/21st   and  in Terrace on Nov 16/17th.    Both seminars still have spaces available, so please advise and encourage your athletes and coach's to attend.  South area skaters wishing to attend one of these educational seminars should contact  the Seminar Co-Ordinator, Sandra Leniuk @ 635-4500 for further information and/or to register.

Anne Schelter  regularly conducts seminars for the ISU and clubs throughout the world.  Her seminars were developed to improve edge, stroking and turn technique for peak performance.

All those attending should bring their skates, lots of energy and a winning attitude!!

Caribooster-   All clubs will have already received their current issue of the CNCR Caribooster by mail.   Please photocopy and distribute to your board members.  Its full of valuable information as well as a monthly to-do check list, that will help you keep on top of your club responsibility's.

Canskate Seminar-  Glad to see that the majority of our clubs have registered to send Coaches,  PA's and executive members to the Canskate Seminar Oct. 6th.

Annual South Central Area Meeting-  I will also be holding a South Central Area Meeting on Saturday, during the Canskate Seminar. Everyone is welcome but please ensure that at least one member of your club is assigned to attend.    The time and meeting room will be posted at the arena.  We have a few South Area house keeping items to discuss and then will open it up for Q & A forum.  Bring all your questions and/or concerns about any and all subjects; club administration, scheduling, Skate Canada policy/procedures, programs, test days, etc.  We will have several region directors in attendance, so we should be able to cover a wide range of topics.  All out of area clubs attending the seminar will be welcome to join us.

CNCR                     SOUTH-CENTRAL AREA                    NEWSLETTER     #4            2007-2008 SEASON

Annie’s Edges Seminar - Unfortunately the seminar will not be coming to the South area this season. We tried our best but Anne Shelter was unable to find the time in her busy schedule to moderate seminars in all 3 of our Regions areas.  We do hope to book her into the South Central area next year. She has committed to moderate seminars in the North (Chetwynd Oct 20/21s )  and the West areas (Terrace Nov 16/17th

Canskate Seminar…The BC/YT Section is funding Canskate seminars in each Region of the Province. Ours is scheduled for Oct 6th in Prince George. Moderator is Leona Boyle, an experienced  Skate Canada workshop moderator and club consultant. Each club is encouraged to send their coach and at least two PA’s and executive members. The tentative schedule is a 9 am start, approx. 3 hours off ice and 2 hours on ice. Mark the date on your club calendar and  register early. There will be no charge for this seminar. See attached notice from Val Collins.- BC/YT Section Canskate Co-Ordinator.

Come Skate With Us Clinicss

Form 1000 -The following clubs have still not submitted their Form 100- Spruce City, McBride and Nechako.  I have attached another copy for you–take a minute to complete and remit. Please use the official form, in the correct format.   Incoming forms completed in a neat and legible handwriting are greatly appreciated.  Its time consuming and frustrating to receive information that cannot be read.

Quorum - In response to questions received, I think it may be helpful to review the terms of a Quorum. Check your own clubs constitution, but normally a quorum is 50% of your executive members plus one.  Be aware that while you do need to have a Coaching Rep on your board, that coach does not count towards your clubs quorum.  Only voting members who are in attendance at the meeting can be counted in order to achieve a quorum. Coaches do have a voice at meetings but are never permitted to vote. If you do have enough members attending a meeting to  achieve a quorum but then one member leaves and you no longer meet your quorum requirement, then your minutes must reflect the change of status and no further official business, motions or decisions are permitted.

Thin Ice -There will be two magazines issued each year. The submission deadline is September 1st and March 15th

Synchro – If your club currently has a team or is interested in forming a synchro team and would like to hold a synchro seminar this season please contact CNCR Synchro Director Jennifer Kuehn.

I understand that many of our area clubs have had changes of leadership this season. Many thanks to the outgoing board members, we applaud your hard work and dedication to our sport and your club skaters. And a sincere welcome to returning and new board members. You’ve taken on a challenging but also an extremely satisfying position. If I can be of assistance to you, please don’t hesitate to give me a call. I don’t promise to always have all the answers, but I do promise that I will find the correct information you need and get right back to you..

Enjoy the rest of your summer.

CNCR                     SOUTH-CENTRAL AREA                   NEWSLETTER # 3            2007-2008 SEASON

A few items of interest coming out of the recent CNCR Board meetings held in Prince George.

  • In place of the High Performance Seminar that the Region usually schedules for September, the CNCR Board of Directors has organized a travelling seminar that will see Anne Shelter, of Annie’s Edges, moderate a seminar in all three areas of our region.  The focus of the clinic will be to teach and demonstrate how the proper execution of edges will lead to an increase of proficiency, strength and speed, enhancing our skaters’ performances. Ms Shelter has demonstrated her very successful methods throughout North America and expects a high level of participation from all those taking part.  The Region has allocated funding to subsidize the registration fees. The skaters registration will be just $50 for this two day seminar with the Region picking up the other half.  In addition, the Region has agreed to subsidize the entire registration fee for our coaches, to encourage their education and professional development.  There are three seminars scheduled: North area is scheduled for Dawson Creek, Oct. 20/21st. The plan is to hold the West area seminar in Terrace Nov 16/17, and the South Central area on Nov. 18/19th. Our hope is to piggy back the west and south area’s so that one day of each area’s seminar will fall on the weekend, therefore only one day of school will be missed.  The host club for the south area has yet to be finalized, both Fraser Lake and PGFSC have expressed an interest.  I’ll advise you of the location as soon as I know. Please do encourage your skaters to plan to attend this very worthwhile program and advise your coach’s as well.  We are also in the planning stages to include a Mini Know Your Sport segment for the parents during these seminars. Topics to be covered would include club administration, in addition to any subject deemed of interest to the majority.

  •  A decision has been made to split the two part competitive freeskate competitions into two separate events. Meaning there would be a Short Program event and a separate Long Program event.  This has been the norm for sometime in other Regions of our Province and will make the taking of competitive tests during competition much simpler for the skaters.

  • Region clubs having constitutions dated 7 years or older are asked to begin looking at updating soon: these would include Mackenzie, Williams Lake and Prince George.

  • The Nechako and McBride clubs need to immediately send a copy of their clubs constitution to the BC/YT Section office for filing.  Please remit attention: Bev Viger. All clubs should also forward a copy of their currently approved constitution to their Area Rep for filing.

All clubs EXCEPT Fraser Lake submitted their signed Proxy form for Donna to carry to the Skate Canada AGM.  Hopefully next year we’ll have 100% participation.

Again I remind all clubs that immediately following your AGM you are required to complete and send me your clubs Form 100, with full address, phone and email address’ of all your executive and committee members for the 2007/08 season.  You can find a spare copy of Form 100 in your copy of the ‘Caribooster’ or online at : www.skatecncr.com

My thanks to the Quesnel FSC whose is the only Form 100 I’ve received to date.

An important reminder to those clubs who may receive and be considering coaching applications from coaches who are unknown to you. It is imperative that you do a background check with the Section Office. And finally, any clubs or club members requiring advice or direction about any subject at all are encouraged to contact myself, or any of the CNCR Board members as listed on the CNCR website..

Have a wonderful summer.

CNCR                     SOUTH-CENTRAL AREA                   NEWSLETTER # 2            2007-2008 SEASON

www.skatecncr.comm

Form 100 be completed in its entirety with full address, phone and email address and sent to me immediately following your AGM.

I also require two club contacts that I can rely on to check their email on a regular basis.  I will always distribute incoming Skate Canada rule changes or other information by email and experience proves that it works best to have two contacts per club in case one person is away or someone’s computer goes down.

I would appreciate receiving the above information as soon as possible.

To help with planning your club fee structure for next season, I have been advised that the Skate Canada member registration fees have been increased to $30 plus insurance. While this seems to be a substantial increase, it is still $20 lower than the average membership fees of what other comparable sports organizations currently charge their members.  The previous fee of $14 was in effect for the last 15 years and so was long overdue for an increase.

The insurance fee will continue to be approx. 80 cents per member.

If your club is having a summer school or would like to announce club information/activities on the CNCR site, please send to Webmaster Linda Bryant for posting.  She can be easily contacted through a link on the CNCR website.

You are reminded to assign a member of your executive to check both your incoming club email and postal box on a regular basis during the off-season.

If your club is actively looking for coaching staff for next season or advice about contracts and how to properly conduct contract negotiations, contact Barb Stott  at the BC/YT Section Office (604-205-6960)

And as usual, please feel free to contact me at anytime with club administration issues, or any questions that are of concern or need clarification.

CNCR                     SOUTH-CENTRAL AREA                    NEWSLETTER     #3            2005-2006 SEASON

Thanks to all those who attended the SAGM  in person and to those who were unable to attend but who sent their clubs proxy form to me so that I could represent your club.  For those who did not attend, the CNCR Board of Director Report packages and meeting minutes will be mailed to you.

One important reminder to all clubs…If you are planning to attend any Region or Section meeting you MUST have your clubs proxy/delegate formed signed by two officers of your club, and the ‘delegate’ information filled in. Unfortunately several club presidents (not from our area) arrived at the meeting without a completed delegate form and so had to sign in as ‘Observers’….. which unfortunately meant that their club did not have a vote.

Skaters Lottery-There were numerous questions raised about the cancelled Sweepstakes. With regards to the refunding of tickets, we were advised to be patient,  that it will take quite awhile to fully complete but we were assured that every ticket holder will be contacted either by telephone or by letter. Contact will be made in the order that clubs remitted their tickets to Section & chosen Option #2- (Section to contact the ticket purchasers)

Some club presidents have mentioned that they cannot find their club copy of the BC/YT Section Membership Manual…This is a white binder which contains helpful information on a wide variety of topics, such as ethics, insurance, skater development, club management, test days, competitions and much, much more. It was sent free to EVERY club in the province several years ago. It is clearly stated on the first page that the manual is intended to remain as property of the club…… NOT of any president or executive member.

So if your clubs manual is missing, please contact the former president and ask them to return it or if that fails you can order a second copy from the Section office…however  there will be an approx. $25 charge to replace your copy.  Each year the clubs are sent updated information to insert in their binder…

Cruise Lottery : The trip was  won by Leonard Patterson of Dawson Creek…Congratulations to him and thanks to every one of you who purchased a ticket.  Also congratulations and thanks to Susan Slater, our hardworking CNCR fundraising director, who made sure that every ticket was sold, ensuring maximum benefit to the Region.

All proceeds of CNCR fundraising efforts go towards Skater Development programs for our Regions’ skaters.

An exciting opportunity for her and the knowledge she acquires will be a great resource for our region.

We are fast approaching that time of year when the CNCR will have its Annual General Meeting and election of officers for the 2006/2007 season.. We are always looking for new volunteers to fill the various directorships.

Anyone having an interest in joining the Region board please do feel free to contact me..

CNCR                     SOUTH-CENTRAL AREA                    NEWSLETTER     #2            2005-2006 SEASON

High Performance seminar

We were pleased to have Andre Bourgeous, (BC Section, Skaters Development) as well as Scott Davis (former USA Champ) travel to the north to work with our seminar skaters over the 3 days..

The parents information session Saturday evening was also very well attended.  Andre spoke on the importance of instituting ‘individual’ training programs for the athletes. And Sarah Petrisor of the PGFSC did a power point presentation on the topic of creating a  Policys & Proceedures manual for your club.

The PGFSC has worked very hard over the past few years to update and put policy’s in place meant to provide guidance when confronted with the conflicts and pit-falls which seem to face the majority of our clubs these days.

The Prince George club has generously offered to share their work with any of the CNCR clubs who wish to have a copy.  It really is a worthwhile document and while not all policy’s will apply to every skating club it is a valuable resource that could be used as a starting place for the better management of your own club..

If you are interested in obtaining a copy, please contact the PGFSC directly and they will mail it to you.

Regional Championships:: The correct dates are Jan 27/29premiumm. (You can always cancel any you don’t need later)

Thin Ice:  All clubs are encouraged to remit articles recognizing your skaters accomplishments to the Section Skaters Magazine-“Thin Ice”. However, all articles must be submitted thru’ Jennifer Kennedy using the template that was sent to all clubs.  Please do not send your articles directly to the Section office or they will be returned.

Club Coaches:

Come Skate With Us::  Nicole Collins, the new director, is working on updating and revamping the program.  If your club still has one of the old Come Skate With Us kits, she would appreciate them being returned to her.

Tests:

CNCR Website::  Please advise all your members of the wealth of information posted on our website.

Everything you never thought of can be found in that one location, including links which will take you directly to Skate BC, Skate Canada & all Region clubs having their own websites.... http://www.skatecncr.com

Adult & High School Competition:thh.  Always lots of fun.   I would like to hear from any clubs who have Adult skaters registered with their clubs.

Clubs are asked to please encourage and work with your senior club skaters to choose an member  to represent your club.  Look for further information from CNRC Athletes Rep. Ashlee Machuik.

Region Minutes:: Minutes of CNCR Board meetings & Director reports are available to member clubs.

CNCR                     SOUTH-CENTRAL AREA                    NEWSLETTER # 1          2005-2006 SEASON

I hope you all had a wonderful, restful summer and welcome you back to what looks to be another busy skating season.

I’m sure you are all pre-occupied with getting your clubs registration event organized for the new skating season.

Just a reminder that in order to post any skaters test results on our Region web site, your test chairperson needs to have a Consent Form filled in and signed by the skaters parent or guardian.

The signed consent must be submitted and on file with our webmaster Linda Bryant.

Consider attaching the consent as part of your test skaters registration form.

You should have received two copies of the 2005/2006 edition of the CNCR Caribooster.

This booklet is full of valuable information meant to assist your club in navigating through the requirements of Skate Canada.

Please post one copy on your bulletin board for your general membership. I’m told that several of the clubs make extra copies to distribute to each of their Executive Board members.

Also, please refer regularly to the Club Monthly Checklist page, which is designed to help you meet your clubs obligations in a timely manner.

When remitting forms and requested information we would appreciate having those forms completed in a neat and clearly readable document.    It’s frustrating and time consuming to receive information that cannot be read whether due to weak penmanship or poor fax equipment.

and myself asap.

The next CNCRegion Board meetings will be held in conjunction with the Regions High Performance Seminar to be held Sept 23-24th in Prince George. Open to all levels of skaters.

(If you haven’t already registered, there MAY be a few spots still available for late entrys.)

If you have any concerns or questions for the Region Board about policies or anything at all please contact me as soon as possible.

I understand that many of our area clubs have had a change of leadership this season.

Welcome to all of the new executive board members, I’m sure you’ll find that you have taken on a challenging but also an extremely satisfying position.

If the Region can be of any assistance to you please don’t hesitate to give me a call.

I don’t promise to have all the answers but I do promise to find the correct information and get right back to you.

That’s all for now-Happy Skating

CNCR                     SOUTH-CENTRAL AREA                    NEWSLETTER # 8           2004-2005 SEASON

I’m just home from the CNCR Board meetings with some items of interest to report.

The Section Voluntary Donation Motion Passed: Unfortunately not all of the other area clubs were as attentive as the South Area clubs were in remitting their proxies as requested. Only one of our South Area clubs neglected to submit their proxy. And so while Val fought the good fight and cast those proxy votes that she did receive in the manner requested by the clubs, the motion did pass at the Sections AGM.

Hopefully each club will now realize just how important and in fact, critical their proxy vote is..

Speaking of Proxy/Delegate forms. The only forms we have received for the Skate Canada AGM is from Mackenzie and I understand that the Spruce City FSC is sending a delegate to attend the National meetings.

We would appreciate the other clubs looking through your mail to find your Proxy. It is club specific and numbered.  Audrey Heffell is attending the AGM so please sign your clubs form, leave the Delegate and Proxy designate names blankk and fax to Audrey (563-5806) who will carry your proxy or delegate designation.

The Section Voluntary Donation is $7 per ‘skating’ member.  I realize this seems like a lot when you are planning your registration fees but do keep in mind that the Skate Canada registration fees have been frozen at $14 for over 8 years.  Most other sports organizations are currently charging up to $30.

Two dollars of this fee will return to the Regions to be used towards Skater Developmental Programs

Skaters Lottery Sweepstakes:stt. Her fax is( 250) 569-2642.

Apparently if your order is not received by the deadline, your club tickets may arrive later than you had expected and just may miss arriving in time for your clubs registration date.  So please,  do it now.

Note:thh highest ticket seller in the province. Way to go Annie!

Skater Calendars Can be pre-ordered by contacting Susan Slater (Mackenzie FSC)

Form 100’s-Please complete and remit your clubs Form 100 to Val immediately following your AGM.

Centralized High Tests:  The Nechako FSC has been awarded the Jan. 28/29 Centralized test date.

Clubs wishing to submit a bid to host the March 25/26th date, please contact me and have the ice tentatively confirmed. **NOTE:  The policy regarding High tests was revisited and a motion passed stating that ALL High tests MUST be taken at a Centralized High Test session.  There are 4 scheduled throughout the region during the winter season.  Nov.-Chetwyn, Jan.-Vanderhoof, Feb.-Pr Rupert and  March-Unassigned.

High tests will no longer be permitted to tag onto clubs low/intermediate test dates..

Region Skater Development Seminar Funding Available:

Come Skate With Us:See page 15 in Caribooster.

Field Training Programss: Funding available to help cover any loss to the host club to a maximum of $1095.

Northern BC Winter Games:  To be hosted by the community of 100 Mile. If the number of registrations warrants it, a qualifying skate-off should be held within each ‘zone’ – to be organized by that zones clubs.

High Performance Seminar: Tentatively scheduled for Sept 23,24th. Mark these dates on your calendar.

 That’s all for now………Have a wonderful summerr.

CNCR                     SOUTH-CENTRAL AREA                    NEWSLETTER # 6            2004-2005 SEASON

Not many of our South Central Area clubs took the opportunity to honor a club member

but hopefully next year there will be a more balanced nominee representation from all

area’s of the Region.  I know of many skaters deserving of such recognition.

It really was a very difficult choice this year. And we were pleased to note that the majority of award nomination submissions were much better prepared and documented than in past years. There were a few who neglected to include letters of recommendation and support for their nominee which in the end did make a difference.

And unfortunately, there were a couple of nominations submitted after the deadline.

The Region will soon announce the very worthy and commendable award recipient’s.

All athletes love to see their accomplishments recognized publicly and why not?….they’ve worked really hard all year to achieve their goal.

If your club has test day results that you would like to see posted on our website, please have your parents sign the consent form and remit test results to our Webmaster Linda Bryant.

She can be easily contacted through a link on the website.

Also, a reminder that all submissions for test days (including the initial lists) are to be submitted ONLY by the club’s test chairperson. Apparently some test lists have been emailed to the host club by coaches. That is definitely NOT permissible.

The proper procedure is for the coach to advise their own club test chairman of any tests they wish their students to try and their test chair will then submit the clubs tentative test list the host club. Pulls are also only permitted through the club test chairman.

When planning your clubs’ annual carnival or pop concert, you must first have your sanction application approved by the Region Chairman Val Collins.

Hope to see many of you at the Region AGM in Terrace, March 5thh

If you have any concerns or items that you would like to see discussed or placed on the meetings agenda please let me know as soon as possible.

And don’t forget to have your CNCR Proxy/Delegate form signed to be carried by your

club delegate.

If you are unsure if someone from your club will be able to attend, please fax me your

clubs signed proxy/delegate form..

CNCR                     SOUTH-CENTRAL AREA                    NEWSLETTER     #5            2004-2005 SEASON

Happy New Year Everyone;   I trust you all had a wonderful Christmas break.

Just a few reminders to pass along this month.

th.  NO EXCEPTIONS. Val tells me that she has received NO nominations at all from any of the CNCR clubs!!  I’m sure this must just be an oversite as I know for a fact that there are many worthy and very deserving candidates in each of your clubs. Each club was sent a package advising of several awards available at both the Region and Section levels.  That package also included guidelines and suggestions to help with your submissions and you might also want to have a look at the Awards item on page 12 in the ‘Caribooster’.

Our Region Website is getting a lot of attention lately as more and more of our members have found it to be a wealth of information. In the very recent past it was only the club president and executive members who had access to incoming information. Due to the internet that is no longer the case.  Every member of every club now has the opportunity to educate themselves regarding the various aspects of figure skating. Even the ‘Caribooster’ is available on line.  The CNCR site has loads of information about the numerous programs available. You can download announcements and competitions registration forms.  Competition schedules and event groupings are posted immediately following the draw..

Looking for a test day to attend ? Check the website for test dates and locations.  And remember if your club has received permission to hold a low/intermediate test day, you should try to book enough ice to invite and accommodate your neighboring clubs.  Take a minute to advise our web master and have your test day listed on the site.  You can even follow the links to other Region skating clubs who have developed their own sites. We are so fortunate to have such a well developed and current website.

Check it out:   http://www.skatecncr.com

CNCR                     SOUTH-CENTRAL AREA                    NEWSLETTER     #4            2004-2005 SEASON

Many thanks to Lindy Steele and her little band of dedicated volunteers.

Some items coming out of the meetings:

-The 2005 Regional Championships have been awarded to the Fort St.John FSC, (December 2ndd-3rd)

-Congratulations to Ashlee Machuik of Quesnel who was chosen to be the new CNCR Athletes Rep

-Clubs are reminded again to send in your current Club Constitution to Audrey Heffell asap..

If yours hasn’t been updated lately, its time to assign a committee to get to work on that..

-The number of ‘high’ level competitions allotted to our region and where they will be scheduled

was discussed.  Williston Skate will always be “high“ and located in the Central area in October.

Elaine Nustad, Judges Training Director, spoke about the very serious shortage of judges that the CNCRegion is currently facing.

To summarize:  Our region only has 15 qualified judges to service this huge region from Wms Lake, north to Dawson Creek and Ft Nelson and west to Prince Rupert. Of those, there are just two High judges, 6 intermediate and 7 primary level judges. Of these there are some who refuse to travel outside their home community, several have very young family’s and find it difficult to get away often and there are a few who only accept invitations to judge at one or two competitions &/or test dates during the season.  Our region has 5 competitions each year,

4 High test days and we receive approx. 40 requests for low/intermediate club test days.

If we aren’t able to increase the numbers of judges, then more and more testing requests will be refused. Unfortunately it has already started…… One or two judges just can’t do it all.

Clubs are asked to keep in mind that when a judge agrees to go to your
