Selection Criteria for Region Teams

Below is a document that has information on how the Region Talent Teams will be selected for the 2011/2012 Season. The PDF of this document can be found on the CNCR website under both the Coaches and the Skaters/Parents Tabs. If you have any questions please contact Nicole Collins.

Attention all CNCR Coaches!

The Skater Development and Region Development Coordinators are looking for skaters who fit the criteria for the following:

1) Region Talent Team (previously RST)

2) Region Junior Team (previously Junior Selects or Rising Stars)

In order for skaters to be considered for these teams, we are requiring coaches to submit skater’s names though a nomination process which includes a short video submission. Please see the form below the criteria charts. In order to select skaters this year, we are using the criteria as a baseline, and will be specifically looking at age and strong skating skills.

All submissions will be reviewed by the Skater Development, Region Development and Section Coaches Representatives. Skaters selected to these teams will be notified by the Section and Region Skater Development Committees.

Region Talent Team

Skaters selected will reflect the best developing single skaters in our region who meet the below criteria or guidelines, and who are not currently on the BC Team or Provincial Development Team.

Level	Skill Criteria	Additional Guidelines
*Primary events in which skaters will be considered for the Region Talent Team*
Pre-Novice	Double Lutz Strong Skating & spins Good basic technique	- Skater must not have reached the age of 15, July 1 preceding the event.
Juvenile	Double Flip Strong Skating & spins Good basic technique	- Skaters who competed in this category and met the age criteria for the current season.
Pre-Juvenile	Double Toe-Loop Strong Skating & spins Good basic technique	- Skaters who competed in this category and met the age criteria for the current season.
Preliminary	Axel Strong Skating Good basic technique	- Skater must not have reached the age of 11, July 1 preceding the event and commit to competitive skating within 18 months if age and test eligible.
Pre. Prelim.	All single jumps Strong Skating	- Skater must not have reached the age of 10, July 1 preceding the event and commit to competitive skating within 24 months if age and test eligible.
*Secondary events in which skaters MAY be considered for the Region Select Team*
Sr. Bronze	Double Flip Strong Skating & spins Good basic technique	- Skater must not have reached the age of 13, July 1 preceding the event and commit to competitive skating the following year if age and test eligible.
Jr. Bronze	Double Toe-Loop Strong Skating Good basic technique	- Skater must not have reached the age of 12, July 1 preceding the event and commit to competitive skating the following year if age and test eligible.

REGION JUNIOR TEAM

Age: 7 and Under as of April 6^th / 2012 (Date of Kelowna Development Camp)

Skating Skills: Strong Stroking (Forwards/Backwards)

Crossovers

Awareness of Edges

Skating Elements: Must be landing Loop Jump

Should be aware of Sit Spin and Camel Spin

In addition: These skaters should be able to handle a 2 day seminar, including:

2 on-ice sessions

2 off-ice sessions

Dance Performance

** Skaters who are selected to these teams will be invited to the

Kelowna Development Camp and should be prepared to attend. **

èIf the skater attends Cariboots, and would still like to submit a video, they are welcome to do so by the deadline.
